Join us for a conversation and Q&A with Paul Moakley, Editor at Large for Special Projects at TIME. Paul is known locally as the curator and caretaker at the Alice Austen House.

In conjunction with our current online exhibit, Know Me, we are thrilled to welcome Paul for a conversation about photographic storytelling, portfolio development, how to pitch editorial, and the process through which he commissions and collaborates with visual journalists for TIME. All are welcome: emerging and experienced photographers, documentary storytellers, filmmakers and friends.

Missing some good old fashioned art-making? Come make art with us on Sunday, May 19th! Mark your calendar and make it happen. Enjoy our sun-filled gallery space and be inspired by John Foxell's assemblages in your midst. No sculpture experience necessary, just a thirst to create an inventive piece of work from found objects - some from you, some from John's collecting friends! Bring 5-10 objects for your piece, and we'll supply the rest (drills, adhesives, screws, etc.) Pick a few additions from our Foxell box of tricks!

Emily Perina, sculptor and Director of Operations at MakerSpace NYC, will lead the workshop with an overview of compositional techniques, attachment methods, and more. Make art with friends and go home with a work inspired by the pieces, and remnants, of your life.

Join St. George artist James Francis Richards in-person for an Artist Talk and Q&A on his exhibit, And Yet, We Still Have Joy, on view at ArtSpace. We’ll be hosting Richards for a conversation about his current works on video, the conceptualization of the exhibit, his technical processes and experimentation, and his journey through the intersecting worlds of film, projection, and video art. Richards tells stories with his work, and will share some of his personal stories on setbacks, influences, and finding his voice. Come for conversation and community, and to view the show. Fellow artists, filmmakers, art lovers, and friends welcome. Refreshments provided.

Artist to Artist Roundtable (via Zoom)
October 1, 2020 7-9pm

Join us for this peer forum moderated by Meghan Joseph, Exhibition Curator discussing the ‘who/what/where’ of artmaking. Hear from fellow artists and share your go-to methods – from shopping tips for art supplies; to pricing and photographing your work; to exhibiting, the local art fair circuit, websites and marketing. Ever think: ‘Wow, she’s got a great website!’ or ‘Where does he do his framing?’ or ‘Is Etsy worth it?’ Join us as we share with each other what’s worked, ask about things that haven’t, and explore new ideas that might be worth exploring. Just want to listen in? That’s fine too. Join us for this casual gathering to talk art.
